Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor Education

Intervention 911 has been approved as an education provider by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). The commission is to foster excellence in elementary, secondary, adult and postsecondary institutions, and supplementary education programs.

Intervention 911 has developed online, self directed educational content to meet the education requirements for those seeking to get their certification as a drug and alcohol counselor.  The curriculum is currently approved by CADTP (Home – California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (cadtp.org).

Program Description

Intervention911 Addiction Studies Modules cover the study of chemical addiction and treatment. They prepare students to work with the alcohol and other drug dependent population, and the family and employer of the chemically dependent person. The skills needed for trained alcohol and other drug prevention specialists to work and volunteer in both public and private agencies are addressed in these modules. Upon completion, students will be guided through an internship at a facility of their choice to earn 300 hours observing/learning the 12 core competencies of substance abuse counseling (TAP 21 – SAMHSA). The process has been designed to facilitate addiction counselor certification. Students will demonstrate competency in the following areas as related to the study of chemical addiction and treatment: values, terminology, and practice of the field of addiction studies addiction-related social policy individual, group and family counseling; case management; pharmacology; law and ethics; dual diagnosis; personal and professional development; roles and responsibilities of the helping profession; and cultural competence.
