Auditing Treatment Providers

Auditing Treatment Providers

The Independent Coalition of Treatment Providers (ICOTP) is an organization dedicated to making a difference in the behavioral health field. Our goal is to show insurance payers and more importantly the public that we are transparent and working in the best interests of our patients. Our first objective, which we have now completed, was to get Joint Commission accreditation for both Interventions and Case Management. This embodies our philosophy of the continuum of care and five-year treatment outcomes. Our members look at interventions as a method for creating plans for individuals and their families to prevent relapse from the start. Case management helps providers ensure that the tools learned in treatment are used in the months and years outside of treatment. Patients remain accountable with frequent contact alongside sobriety and drug testing. Our second objective, which is now being implemented, is to create more transparency in the industry by promoting ethical audits of business practices. We have worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers to create a comprehensive set of standards, which can be audited. We believe that inviting a third party to come in and perform an audit sets an ethical standard for the public and may reveal poor practices invisible even to treatment providers themselves. With these and future goals, we are committed to working with the payer community to provide quality care, transparent business practices and measurable outcomes. Please review our standards on ICOTP.org and to complete the application. There is a flat donation for membership to ICOTP and a sliding scale for PricewaterhouseCoopers audits based on the size of the treatment provider. We believe these are a small price to pay to set ourselves apart from the poor practices and ethics of others. We look forward to your joining us.
