Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD)/ Substance Use Disorder (SUD) counselor training is self-paced and consists of nine online courses (345 hours). Once you have paid all fees, you will be given access to the courses and can begin working right away.

  • 9 self- paced online courses (345 hours)
  • Schooling will allow you to receive certification in CA through CAADE, CADTP or CCAPP. In order to verify if these certifications provide reciprocity in your state through IC & RC be sure to check for eligibility prior to enrollment at InternationalCredentialing.org
  • Please note, you will be initially credentialed as CAADE, CADTP or CCAPP certified which requires that you take a test. This may require
    testing in the state of California.
  • You are responsible for verification of the schooling in your home state, changes in the reciprocity or anything related to your school education and subsequent certification is through your school provider

APPROVED PROVIDER STATUS
This is to inform and congratulate you for meeting the accreditation standards of the California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators (CAADE). As of March 28th, 2023, CAADE certifies that Intervention 911 is in good standing as a “fully accredited Career Track provider of Addiction Studies and meets all standards thereof.” Your accreditation is good for three years, through March 28th, 2026.

CAADE REQUIREMENTS
Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California (accbc.org)
Complete 9 hours of education in confidentiality, ethics, and boundaries. Upon completion of AOD/ADS education, must submit an Education Equivalency Application
315 hours AOD/ADS college coursework, 2,240 clinically supervised AOD hours, Passing score on the CATC Exam


CCAPP

CCAPP is the largest statewide consortium of community-based for-profit and nonprofit substance use disorder treatment agencies, and addiction focused professionals, providing services to over a 100,000 California residents annually in residential, outpatient, and private practice settings. Its 12,000 individual members and 500 program members provide substance use disorder treatment services in the majority of DHCS licensed and/or certified sites throughout the state and constitute the largest infrastructure of the state’s publicly funded substance use disorder treatment network. CCAPP is the only statewide consortium representing all modalities of substance use disorder treatment programs.

CCAPP REQUIREMENTS:
315 hours approved, AOD specific education
255 hours of supervised work experience (field practicum)
Passing score on the IC&RC Written Exam
Applicants with 315 hours of AOD education: 3,000 hours of work experience
Renewal every two years (continuing education required)

CADTP REQUIREMENTS
New SUD Counselors • CADTP Counselors
Before being employed as a counselor in a DHCS licensed or certified program an applicant must register as a Substance Use Disorder Registered Counselor (SUDRC) by completing the Registration Application along with the following:

  • Registration fee of $75
  • Signed Code of Conduct/Ethics
  • Copy of ID (driver’s License)
  • 2×2 photo of the applicant

Prerequisite of a 9-hour orientation course must be submitted with the application. The course can be found online from one of the following CADTP certified online education providers:

All registrants are required to renew annually. For renewal requirements go here: Renewal Requirements.
Applicants will have five years from the date of being registered as a SUD counselor to complete the following:

  • 315 hours of formal SUD specific education
  • 255 hours of supervised SUD training as a substance use disorder counselor (effective for initial registration registrations on or after 11/1/2021)
  • 2,080 hours of SUD counseling work experience
